On the 25th of September 2018, and to celebrate 15 years since NAWIC UK & Ireland launched, our region (London and South East) will be hosting its first Annual Conference.

Context:

In the past year and a half, due to global events and especially the 100 year cellebrations since the first female votes in the UK, many have become aware of the need to address diversity in the context of business and started to embrace initiatives which support it.

Within construction, we have seen how the conversation has opened up too and we are finding this had helped us find a more receptive audience than there ever was.

Overview:

Our research shows that one of the strengths women bring to business in general and the construction industry, in particular, is creative problem-solving.

Throughout history, women have developed solutions to overcome many specific challenges. Solutions we still use every day both at work and home and yet this is not something most people know about. The fire escape, multifunctional kitchen-furniture solutions, solar heating and workplace ergonomics are just a few examples of solutions to problems with a female authorship.

With this conference, we want to show that our industry can provide the framework for innovation and that there are many ways in which this materialises, with women actively seeking to implement changes which will benefit the industry as a whole.

We want to inspire and empower attendees to look around, find a challenge and take action to make a difference within their own environment and the industry as a whole without the need to wait to be given the opportunity.
