Circular Economy Series: Jewellery Making workshop

In 2023 we want to empower our network with the skills necessary to reframe the way we collectively look at resources.

Our industry is one of the biggest contributors to waste on the planet and there are many things we can do to help reshape the way we plan our projects in order to reduce the waste they produce, however, we often forget that we make statements also in our everyday lives.

Picking up from the discussions that took place in our conference back in 2020 (See videos here) , we plan to run a series of events that will expand on the idea of Practical Circular Economy with the intention of acquainting ourselves with the (many) opportunities that can be unlocked through considering CE another part of our day to day practice… like many cultures have been doing for centuries.

The events we have currently pencilled in, will be open to everyone, and will include the following:

  • The Value of the Unusual: Jewellery making workshop (January 12th)
  • A second life: Textiles Repair/ Remake skills workshop
  • IWD celebration: What statement will you wear?
  • Circular Economy on site: Making an Impact with your planning

Event insight:

The Value of the Unusual: Jewellery making workshop

The event will be run by our committee member, Designer and Architect Cristina Lanz Azcarate (from Atelier EURA) who, through her designs, has spent the past 4 years exploring ways in which to transform less common materials into attractive pieces of jewellery.

Her journey begun at Tate Modern while visiting an exhibition of Annie Albers’ work in 2018 and has continued since.

On the day, Cristina will share a presentation exploring the use of uncommon materials on adornments across the world followed by a demonstration of the basic techniques used in her designs to finally lead a hands on workshop where each attendee will be able to design and make a piece of jewellery to take home.

We will provide refreshments.
