Environmental, Social, Governance. The Construction Industry’s most important buzzwords. Yet so many of us are still asking “What do they really mean?”.

In an ever-evolving industry, we want to unpack the true meaning of ESG, what it means but more importantly what it means to you.

Our talented panel of industry experts will guide you through with a whistle stop tour of the pillars of ESG. There will be a presentation from each speaker, followed by a panel discussion and an audience Q&A. We will analyse and dissect the importance of ESG, and how it benefits business and individuals. The aim of this seminar is to educate and bring together women in Construction from all disciplines, embrace new ideas and get a different point of view. We hope you will join us in what will be an insightful peek into the complex realm of ESG in the Construction Industry.

PANELISTS:

Samantha Rowe, Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton

Samantha Rowe is a member of the firm’s core group of ESG partners. She is a litigation partner in Debevoise’s London and Paris offices whose practice also focuses on international arbitration and public international law. In addition to handling international disputes throughout the world, she regularly advises clients on issues relating to business and human rights, climate change and other ESG matters. She serves on the Board of the Business and Human Rights Lawyers Association, is a member of the ICC’s Informal Working Group on Business and Human Rights. She also speaks extensively on ESG matters, most recently at conferences organized by Chatham House, the United Nations, International Chamber of Commerce, British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association, and BritishAmerican Business.

Samantha will discuss the legal landscape covering ESG related issues, including those arising in the property and development sector. She will identify how legal regulation is shaping the industry, and the sources of legal obligations likely to arise for developers and other construction industry participants.

Zoë Glander, Environmental & Sustainability Manager, Morgan Lovell

Zoë Glander is an Environmental & Sustainability Manager for Morgan Lovell, a Fit Out brand in the Morgan Sindall Group. Zoë has worked in the construction industry for 15 years, she is credited with being the first female Construction Manager in the Fit Out division and is now a key member of their experienced in-house Environmental & Sustainability team. She brings a wealth of practical experience to the conversation around ESG in construction, from the perspective of a main contractor. In her current role, she helps implement environmental best practice at a site level, at an organisational level and in her work to support and guide the supply chain. Her industry expertise is recognised through her being a WELL Faculty and through her involvement with the Offices task group for the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.

Zoe will be speaking about how ESG policy decisions impact on the day to day activities on a construction project and how successful implementation at site-level can deliver real value to construction clients.

Alexandra Pons, ESG Reporting Manager, Morgan Sindall Group

Alexandra is a sustainability and strategic sustainability specialist leading senior management teams through sustainability reporting requirements and voluntary disclosures. She provides insight into ESG investor demands, ESG rating agency methodologies, and climate risk scenario analysis to integrate ESG factors into financial planning. Prior to joining Morgan Sindall she worked at Deloitte and focused on TCFD readiness and ESG risk identification. She has an international environmental policy background, working in the U.S, Europe and the U.K and is a former Fulbright Scholar.

Alex will cover the challenges associated with implementing ESG reporting requirements and the juggling of different stakeholders and standards. She will explore how to be proactive vs reactive and how best to align new requirements with business strategy so that ESG adds value to a company.

Sybil Taunton, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

Sybil is the Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), where she is responsible for developing and executing a robust DEI strategy for more than 750 employees and roughly 134,000 surveying professionals globally. Sybil is also a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served 12 years as a Public Affairs Officer, specialising in strategic communications and community relations. Throughout her military career, Sybil travelled the globe working with partner nations and gaining a greater understanding and appreciation for cultural differences and perspectives. Throughout her career, Sybil has dedicated herself to promoting and advancing inclusion, which inspired her decision to transition to a full-time focus on DEI.

Sybil will be unpacking Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and why it matters, with a focus on how it links to the sustainability of business. She will explore what DEI means for organisations both internally and externally.
