PANEL: Safe, Accessible, Empowering: Designing The UK’s Cities with Women’s Needs in Mind
STAGE: BUILDING SAFETY & SECURITY STAGE
BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
This panel examines how urban planning and design can more effectively respond to women’s experiences and requirements in the built environment. We will discuss the intersections of safety, accessibility, mobility, and social infrastructure, considering how design decisions influence inclusivity and equity. Drawing on current policy frameworks, research, and case studies, the session will explore practical approaches for embedding gender-sensitive perspectives into planning, design, and delivery processes, with the aim of creating urban environments that are not only safer and more accessible for women but more resilient and equitable for all.
