Business Breakfast Mental Health in Construction – Followed by Site Visit to Old Oak Common HS2 Station.

Hosted by Balfour Beatty

8:30am, 13th August, London

Join us for our next business breakfast at Old Oak Common as we’ll be looking at mental health in construction. We’ve all seen the figures, we know this industry is struggling – but what does this mean for women in construction.

This panel discussion will cover

  • What are the mental health challenges facing construction?
  • What do these mean for women in the industry
  • What are companies like Balfour Beatty doing to improve access to mental health support
  • What coping strategies and techniques can you deploy if you are struggling?

Following the panel discussion, the team will kindly take us on a guided tour of the current site which will be the new HS2 station.

Britain’s new super-hub station, Old Oak Common, will be a gateway to the capital, the UK and the rest of the world. The new station will provide connections into the heart of London, Heathrow airport, the West Country, south Wales, the West Midlands, the north of England and Scotland.

Construction work in west London is in full swing with Britain’s largest railway station ever built in a single-phase taking shape. Rated as being in the top 1% of buildings worldwide for its environmental credentials, the benefits to west London will be huge.

The 2,000 strong team working at Old Oak Common are making significant progress on the excavation of the 850m long underground box that will contain HS2’s high-speed platforms – working to complete the excavation of 930,000m3 London clay before the Old Oak Common spoil conveyor is decommissioned in the summer. The conveyor has been running for nearly 18 months and has meant that over 63,500 lorries (and counting) have not had to use local roads.

Event timings:

· 8:30am – Welcome and introductions

· 9:00am-9:45am – Mental Health in Construction Panel

· 10:00-11:am – Guided tour of Old Oak Common Site
