Round Table: Industry Health Check

This booklet was the result of our most recent “NAWIC Round Table” which was held in partnership with True You Coaching at Saw Swee Hock Cente, London.

When approached by Gail Butt from True You Coaching, the London and South East team at NAWIC decided to co-host a round table that sought out to identify specific steps and wider strategies that have worked for each one of us in the context of our careers in order for TYC to develop a coaching programme aimed at offering companies and organisations the right tools to support the workforce.

Gail enjoyed a 15 year career in construction often as the only female in the room. Like many of us, her hard work landed her various promotions and eventually a managerial role leading a large team; but it was then that, as she focused on being “what a manager should be”, she lost sight of who she was. With no role models to inspire her or a mentor to share her thoughts with, Gail eventually decided to leave her job and the industry.

Her experience made her determined to make a difference and Gail is now a Personal Development Coach committed to offer the support she would have liked to have, for women in construction to stay in the industry and be the best they can be.

Chaired by Gail, a group of female members of the regional NAWIC network with roles ranging a different spectrum and levels of seniority discussed the challenges and historical preconceptions as well as the opportunities.

It was a good first session full of insightful, and often surprising, moments and thought which are reflected in this booklet.
