NAWIC London Committee Vacancies

Thinking about joining our committee?

Nawic London and South East is the largest of the NAWIC UK groups, this means we are always interested in hearing in from people who want to support and can join the team to help provide a great service for our members.

As well as organising a range of networking, training and personal development events where our members have the opportunity to meet each other and grow their network, we also collaborate with a variety of diversity-driven organisations by partnering on events, sharing best practice and opportunities. To do this we have a committee, chaired by Annie, so we can smoothly and efficiently make this happen, and so as we continue to grow we are looking for new people to join!

Currently we have a few volunteer vacancies including:

  • General committee member
  • Deputy Treasurer
  • Sustainability Champion
  • Education Champion

Have a read through them and if you feel you are a good match click here and complete our application form.

The Projects Women Run Panel

Our network at NAWIC has many amazing women shaping the built environment daily, however, we find that they are often not invited to talk about their work but EDI matters.

And as much as it is important to talk about EDI, in order to create a framework where we can all do our best work, we feel that shining a light on the female talent is vital to :

  • Provide real role models, who are able to inspire and motivate others by sharing their insight honestly…
  • Help overcome the limiting believes which are holding back our industry.

This is why as part of this year’s contribution to London Build, NAWIC will be hosting a panel titled “The Projects Women Run”.

Why teach social justice?

I grew up in an estate built for the families of fishermen like my grandfather’s and although my parents chose to prioritise our education above everything else, they also kept us grounded by reminding us, regularly, that ours was a privileged position we should never take for granted.

I was 9 when I became aware of global-scale social injustices and 10 when I learned about racism and my educators spoke to me about the work of Doctor Martin Luther King, Stephen Biko, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and many others.

Chair Statement.

I would have loved to have learned of George Floyd’s life in a completely different manner. Not as an epilogue written by others but as a story narrated in the first person. A story he could have chosen to tell in order to reflect his true self, not one told by or defined by the actions of others.

It has taken me a while to share my thoughts using the platform that being the Chair of NAWIC London and South East gives me because I realise that while it is an honour to be in this position, the role gives me a responsibility to do so in a way which is both honest and useful to justify my use of space and to help build collective awareness.
